Setting up a Google My Business account is crucial if you’re looking for local work. When somebody searches ‘Gardener near me’ for example, if you have a Google My Business listing set up, you’ll appear on the little map in search results (image below), if you don’t have a Google My Business listing set up, you won’t!

Setting up a Google My Business listing is easy, although it does make you verify your address, so you must enter your full, complete address.

How to set up a Google My Business listing

Step 1 – Visit and click ‘Start Now‘.

Step 2 – Log in with a Google account, or create one if you don’t already have one.

Step 3 – Enter your business’ name in the prompted box. If your business shows up, select it. Alternatively click ‘Create a business with this name‘ and fill in the required information.

Step 4 – Google will now create your Google + page with your address you inputted. Check ‘I am authorised to manage this business‘ and click continue.

Step 5 – Google will need you to verify your business and address, so click on ‘Send me my Code‘. Your code will be sent to your business address.

Congratulations, you now have a Google My Business listing (once verified, obviously!). You shouldn’t stop there though, you should fill out as much information as possible on your profile page.

Step 6 – Click ‘Add profile photo‘ under the profile % completion bar on your dashboard.
